Typical geometric interlocking design found on tobacco pipes from the Torres Straits Islands. The pipe was filled with native tobacco and smoked by men and women, and shared with trading partners and visitors. The burnt-in designs reflected the identity of the owner. This examples dates to the early 20th century and was originally in a UK collection.
