Trophy head chest ornament

Provenance: John Lundsford Collection, Dallas, TX. (Former curator of the Dallas Museum of Art).
These small heads were usually worn around the neck or attached to baskets. They were used as headhunting trophies, representing a slain enemy. This example is unusually naturalistic and dates to the early 20th Century.
